About the Friends of Carlton Camp
Over the last 80 years , Carlton Outdoor Education Centre (Carlton Camp) has given thousands of young people a wonderful outdoor educational experience in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. Youngsters can hike, canoe, climb, orienteer, construct shelters and explore, all with the guidance of trained, experienced leaders. They can climb 'Pin Point' and may even see the ghost of the Grey Lady, said to haunt the dormitories! For all, Carlton is a wonderful experience which lasts a lifetime and is talked about for years to come. Sadly, as subsidies are withdrawn from schools, the experience is increasingly being denied to the most disadvantaged children, who arguably need it the most. This is why the Friends of Carlton Camp has been formed, to ensure no child misses out. The Friends are all local volunteers - current and former teaching staff, including Headteachers and representatives from the business and voluntary sectors, along with those who just love Carlton Camp!
